The 2016 was an excellent vintage within the Priorat region both for the DOQ Priorat as well as DO Montsant from where these grapes were sourced.
The vineyard is 60-year-old Carignan bush-trained vines located in the zone of Mas Pontfumat, Marçà. This is a single vineyard of 0.3ha which is based upon a mix of limestone and alluvial soils.
Due to a heavy mildew infection, a very limited selection was made in the vineyard and the yield was 1/10th of normal. The wine saw 10 days of maceration on the skins with a full stem inclusion. There was no SO2 addition at any point nor filtration and all vinification and aging took place in stainless steel. While not certified organic, the vineyard is worked without pesticides nor herbicides as the owners live alongside the vines and don’t want any contamination.
