The vintage of 2022 was, when viewing from a distance, quiet complicated with continuous heatwaves and excessive heat in general that didn’t really end (in terms of seasonality) until the start of December. Despite this, there appeared to be enough groundwater to see the vines through and avoid overtly alcoholic wines, at least in some cases.
These grapes were sourced from two vineyards, the high-altitude vineyard in the el Bassot zone at 650m as well as the lower la Devesa zone at 350m. Grapes from the llicorella/river stone la Devesa vineyard were harvested on 10 September. Grapes from the limestone/clay vineyard of el Bassot were harvested on 16 September. Both harvests were macerated with 50% full cluster inclusion and kept separate until pressing on 25 September when they were then mixed to finish fermenting. Initial, ambient SO2 was measured at 13mg/l with no foreign additions. An additional 20mg/l were added during bottling in August of 2023.
